Managing snippets of text (or code) with Quicksilver on Mac

I found I don’t really need text expanders with all the whistles, you know, these apps that you use to expand snippets of text you often need…

TextExpander, AutoText and TypeIt4Me are quite cool but unnecessary to my simple needs. All I need for this is Quicksilver, the famous application for Mac from Blacktree.

1- Get Quicksilver up and running
2- Copy your snippets in Clipboard (command+c, duh)
3- Go in Quicksilver’s properties
4- Switch to the Triggers tab –> Custom triggers
5- At the bottom, click the + icon –> pick Hot Key
6- Paste your clipboard in the little top window (if it’s not already in there)
7- Push the Tab key, to switch to the other little window and type ‘Paste’
8- Done, now assign a Hot Key by double-clicking in its Trigger column
I found this particularly useful for managing signatures in Gmail (which doesn’t allow multiple signatures according to the account - yet?) and for long boring bank account number when logging in my internet banking, etc.

You could use it for Tech support via email where you need to type 200 times the same stuff everyday and such, rather than copy pasting from that crummy old txt file of yours ;-)

Have fun.
